What is Nurture?

Nurture provides home-based or classroom-based behavior intervention and early childhood special education for children ages 1-5 years to address challenging behaviors and developmental delays. Developmental intervention (DI) focuses on a child’s ability to learn through play and social interactions. Nurture uses a coaching/consulting model with caregivers so the learning continues at home after the session is over.

Home-Based or Center-Based

By working together in your own home or your child’s classroom, caregivers can practice intervention ideas exactly where they are needed. We’ll create teachable moments and support your child’s development using toys and materials you already own. Your child will feel secure at home or in their everyday classroom - and you’ll avoid driving to an appointment!

Practice & Support

Our time together will be focused on parents and/or classroom teachers learning new strategies. We’ll take time for you to practice and feel confident. The real teaching and learning will happen between our sessions when you use the intervention ideas in play and routines, when it becomes part of your everyday parenting toolkit.

Play-Based

Developmental intervention is play-based early childhood special education that follows your child’s interests. So, we’ll spend a lot of time playing! Building with blocks, reading books, splashing in water, creating with playdough – the sky’s the limit. Our play will be intentional and focused on teaching you new ways to help your child grow.

Strengths-Based

Don’t worry, you are already doing so much to support your child’s development, even if you don’t know it! We’ll identify the parenting strategies that are already working. Together we’ll discover additional practices that will help your child master new skills and reduce family stress.

Routines-Based

Many of the skills that children struggle with and cause family stress are related to routines. Challenges are common during everyday routines like bedtime, mealtimes, or transitioning from one activity to another. Since we’ll be working together in your home, we’ll be right where your child can put their new skills to use.

Family Concerns

Each session we’ll review progress and current concerns. As your child develops, your concerns will change. We’ll adjust the focus of our intervention whenever we need to - meeting your child and family needs.

Cost & Time Efficient

We only need to work together for a short time each week to practice strategies you can use any time, anywhere. Since these are play-based and routines-based interventions, any caregiver can learn to use them. I’ll coach you, and then you can support your child wherever and whenever you want.

Developmental intervention is play with purpose!
